Christmas comes early at the TSA

Filed under: Aviation Security — by Christian Beckner on December 2, 2005

I’m all for the proposed changes to TSA screening announced today, but the timing of their plans seems a bit odd:

Kip Hawley, head of the TSA, said the new rules will take effect December 22nd.

That’s right, three days before Christmas, when the airports are packed full of people – including a lot of people who only fly 1-2 times a year.

Why couldn’t they wait until, say, January 4th? An airport full of screeners adapting to new rules and inexperienced fliers is a recipe for gridlock.
