GovExec on the new DHS preparedness directorate

Filed under: DHS News,Preparedness and Response — by Christian Beckner on January 5, 2006

GovExec has an informative story today on the reorganization of the Preparedness Directorate, that clarifies prior ambiguity in the public record as to its status:

The directorate is officially up and running, DHS spokesman Marc Short said Wednesday. No further congressional action or legislation is needed, and Foresman will start full time next week, Short said….

Short added, however, that the offices and programs under the new directorate will remain dispersed around the Washington , D.C. area, as opposed to being moved to one central location.

Hopefully there will be eventual consolidation of this office in a single location; too many of DHS’s key offices are scattered around town, and that’s arguably been a real barrier to the Department’s integration and unity over the past three years.
