New DHS IG report on TSA screener hiring released

Filed under: Aviation Security,Business of HLS,Organizational Issues — by Christian Beckner on January 10, 2006

The DHS Inspector General released a new report today (PDF link) on recruiting of TSA screeners in 2002, as previewed in this Washington Post story and mentioned on this site last Wednesday.

The report provides what is likely to be the final word on this story, and is worth reading as case study in public management and the perils of project execution in a crisis-driven, time-sensitive environment. But it has little direct relevance for today’s TSA; the two recommendations at the end of the report are proposals for new mild safeguards on the acquisition process, both of which TSA readily concured with in their response.
