Actually, adequate funding of the Department of State and defunding some of the dinasour projects at DOD would also help public diplomacy. Conventional arms control was utilized in Germany and Japan. Why not Irag? Did the GUN LOBBY weight in?</description>

Thanks for this post.  I like the perspective and cannot wait until the day when more outlets begin focusing on this theme of "changing hearts and minds" via "shared interests." In my opinion, it is one of the most pivotal steps necessary in attacking the root of the problem we are facing. Cannot quiet figure out why our leadership refuses to act accordingly. Actually, I have an idea as to why but that is an entirely different blog comment!
