Barack Hussein Obama works to reposition the American global brand

Filed under: International HLS,Strategy,Terrorist Threats & Attacks — by Philip J. Palin on June 4, 2009

At about 6:10 am eastern the President will give his Cairo University speech.  When the prepared remarks are released, we will link them here.  UPDATE: The Washington Post has made available a transcript of the roughly 45 minute speech.

Every cable news channel around the world will provide extensive coverage. Probably worth checking the Al Jazeera Arabic homepage during the speech.  The White House will stream the speech live.  The White House is also promoting a new Facebook page to encourage public remarks on the speech.  We are told there are about 20 million Arabic-speaking users of Facebook.

This is how so-called soft power is expertly deployed.  As we have already seen, our adversaries understand the tough challenge they are facing.

Is the medium the message? Would be interesting to know the background of decision to give speech in Egypt!

Though not an avid supporter of the administration as an independent voter, as with most in the Arab world, the rhetoric was perceived as well thought out and certainly all understood the need to have the speech done in Cairo as the President needs the Egyptian leadership if he is to accomplish some of his objectives.

Unfortunately, the Egyptian government has much to handle itself under pressure from fundamentalists seeking to oust present leadership and disrupt the Middle East.

As Mr. & Mrs. Joe citizen, the President is our President and he is expected to uphold and factually state our values.

While Muslim is simply a practice of law and anyone can become Muslim by their simple prounouncement of a few words, it is not a religion.

Here in the States, our beloved country was founded on Judeo-Christian values, religious values. Our forefathers shared their wisdom and foresight and if local, state and national government would again follow the values imposed by our forefathers, at the helm we would be at the right course setting instead of this morning’s dismal 9.4% unemployment rate with much anguish from where we sit here as the every day person trying to eek out a living dreading the trip to the gasoline station and worried, very worried about inflation….

Anyways, Mr. President, you have narrowed the wiggle room of the new Israeli administration and while you achieved placing the religious fundamentalists outside the general populace citing the fact that killing of innocents is just not the way, I do believe that at least a mention towards the Iranians would have been appropriate.

You Mr. Presidents could have placed pressure on them to use their new found power for the local good of the wonderful and highly regarded Persian people with long standing contributions to civilization, contrary to the notion of ridding the world of the Hebrew which is nothing than outright hatred and a dialogue which must be altered from within as the Iranian people do not hate the Jew and in fact are some of the most highly educated population in the region becoming tired of the empty jargon from Tehran.

Overall, we thought a good speech and while words can be empty, hopefully the US and its global partners can finally get together and begin to truly address the overall good that all governments should afford to Mr. & Mrs. Joe Citizen no matter where and no matter the skin color or language spoken for after all, this is the 21st century and history is our best teacher…

Just remember though, it is the Israelis and Europeans who have been told by the Iranian government that its missiles are within reach of its population….rather intimidating I would say and a reference you Mr. President could have addressed….though it is my suspect that the German-led EU soon to be a consolidated ten (10) nation effort quite prepared to address the Iranian leaders with their modern, fast deployment army and shiny new war ships already sailing in the Mediterranean.
