Twenty-six stars of lost innocence

Filed under: General Homeland Security — by Philip J. Palin on December 14, 2013

Virgo Constellation

This week and especially today the nation recalls the twenty-six killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Others were also killed that day in Newtown, nearby and abroad.

Among the warriors, wild animals and deities of the classical constellations, Virgo is distinguished by her fertile innocence. ¬†Even as late as John Milton’s Paradise Lost, Virgo was understood to have twenty-six stars which rose over the season for sewing the ground.

We now know the Virgo Constellation encompasses billions and billions of stars in a dense cluster of galaxies.

Above is a photograph of the night sky including the Virgo Constellation by David Malin.

Last year some readers of this blog disagreed as to whether Newtown was or was not a “homeland security” event. I am not attempting to — hope I will not — renew that discussion. Given our range of concerns, there seems sufficient reason to simply remember.

Still very sad, and a true tragedy that no progress has been made on gun control at the national level.

While I strive to keep my comments made only to the Friday open forum….

…and yes, Not to renew the discussion, however gun control where few of us would willingly give up our weapons held high for all lawful purpose, We should together be far more demanding from those we have “entrusted” in enforcing the laws regarding possession of illegal arms we have on the books and even making law breakers pay even more dearly in consequences so willing to break the law.

Even more importantly, We must be a society who truly cares and reaches out to the mentally challenged for even with the resources we have in place, even those being treated are so poorly addressed. It is really a pity. ER personnel often say that they have little place to send folks for further treatment so while law abiding citizens will never relinquish their Right to bear Arms and should NOT and given the self-serving agenda of governing today, will Not I assure you….

….while we remember the unacceptable, the unthinkable in such tragic loss of Life, let us together take a serious look at mental health and begin talking w/professionals and families locally in our communities in reaching out to help those obviously in dire need for someone to assist them. We must do our best to avert any such tragedy.

What utter gut-wrenching saddness will always prevail when we recall the news of that day in thinking about the victims and while every youngster is in the Loving embrace of the Lord, of course our hearts pour out for the parents and we must never forget and we must address metal illness as well as making penalty mandatory for having illegal weapon on person, stringent laws and they must be enforced by law enforcement and the courts.

God Bless each and every child always….We will always remember and we will forever be saddened at the depravity of some individuals among us. It is the corruption, the politics and the self-serving mannerisms of “politician” and the extent of power special interest groups have which have demoralized an ever growing government interfering w/citizen’s rights and a government which has evidently little regard for our Constitution and our Judeo-Christian values. We are all children of the Lord and we should look to our similarities, not our differences and have the willingness to be attentive to one another and to compromise and work out amicable solutions if at all possible.

God Bless us all. The road ahead will be a bumpy one as unfortunately and as in mankind’s history, War looms ahead! It is only We who can change the course and limit government, not broaden its scope of power over the innovative, resilient and inspirational creativity as well as inhernet compassion of the individual.
